Full Time Animal Care Specialist – Wolf Haven

The Animal Care Specialist - Wolf Haven provides consistent care and training for the animal collection at Wolf Haven and assist in the training of the entire Zoological collection when necessary; is responsible for maintaining and adapting animal training and husbandry procedures to best fit the needs of the area and the collection; works with the Wolf Haven staff and Supervisor to present a quality presentation that benefits the guests and the animals;  and assists on a required basis with outside events and PR.   

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform daily training sessions, health maintenance, and show presentations
• Daily guest interactions outside of the scheduled Wolf Haven shows.  These may include talks at Wolf Valley, ambassador animal photo sessions, or special presentations with visiting SEA Animal Ambassadors.
• Food prep and area cleaning
• Develop animal conditioning skills and techniques.  Maintain each animal's current level of behaviors.  Work with senior staff and Zoological Supervisor to develop new behaviors and training goals for each animal.
• Daily animal enrichment and exhibit maintenance
• Daily, weekly, and monthly record keeping
• Demonstrate the understanding of the SOPs for an Animal Escape Procedure and the responsibilities of being onsite during this situation.  Complete in-house dart gun training

Candidates with the following qualifications will be considered:

• High school diploma / GED required
• College level courses in psychology or biological science preferred
• At least one and half years experience in Animal Care or Animal Training at a recognized zoological or animal care facility required
• Knowledge of animal care and training techniques that includes proactive behavioral maintenance
• Able to lift at least 50 pounds
• Valid driver's license
